SAP is also particularly proud of SAP Business ByDesign 2.6, whose current Feature Pack follows just six months after version 2.5. That’s not all, however: A store for SAP applications, which Peter Lorenz announced to a select group one year ago, is scheduled for official introduction at SAPPHIRE NOW.

In addition, SAP recently issued a software development kit (SDK) to enable partners to develop their own industry-specific applications and bring them to market in the so-called SAP STORE for SAP Business ByDesign. Available for Feature Pack 2.6 and higher, such add-on apps give customers the chance to enhance their software with a broad range of functions.

SAP open to other hosting options

As in its other offerings, SAP makes reliability and optimal security top priorities in SAP Business ByDesign. Being particularly suited for use by subsidiaries, the on-demand solution should interest not only small businesses and midsize companies, but major corporations, as well.

Lorenz, meanwhile, was not yet willing to accommodate some corporate customers’ desire to handle the hosting of SAP Business ByDesign themselves, citing the maximum level of security guaranteed in running the solution on SAP’s servers in Germany. As for the future, however, Lorenz described SAP as ready and willing to discuss new hosting options.

Business ByDesign 3.0 arrives in July 2011

Lorenz also announced the plan to release a new Feature Pack of Business ByDesign every six months. The 3.0 version should be available by mid-year and is expected to also run on Android devices.
