SAP Virtualization Week 2009
SAP Virtualization Week 2009 is set to focus on the future of virtual IT environments. The event will take place April 20 to 22 at SAP’s Silicon Valley development location in Palo Alto, California.

“Currently, companies are only using about 20 percent of the server capacity in their IT landscapes,” explains Roland Wartenberg, virtualization expert at SAP Labs in Palo Alto and organizer of SAP Virtualization Week 2009. Wartenberg has made it his mission to reach 80-percent capacity utilization; SAP Virtualization Week is one of the elements meant to help achieve that mission.

At the three-day event, companies will learn more about the advantages of virtualization at a total of 25 sessions scheduled to include the following:
- Customers relating real-world experiences with virtual IT environments from SAP
- Partners presenting their products and technologies
- SAP introducing its virtualization strategy and reporting from its own data centers
- A podium discussion involving CTOs from leading virtualization providers such as VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems
Networking for mutual gain
The goal of this SAP event is to bring together all of the major virtualization providers. Those invited include Cisco, Citrix, EMC, F5, HP, IBM, Intel, NetApp, Sun, and VMware. Close collaboration among the attendees will enable customers, partners, and SAP itself to profit from the latest products in the field of virtualization.
Zia Yusuf, executive vice president SAP Global Ecosystem & Partner Group, is set to open SAP Virtualization Week 2009 on April 20. In his keynote, SAP executive vice president and chief sustainability officer Peter Graf will then present a number of reasons why green IT is not enough and the key to success lies in virtualized data centers.
Other notable individuals are also scheduled to speak at the event, for example:
- Simon Crosby, CTO of Citrix Systems’ Virtualization & Management Division, will talk about how virtualization affects user interfaces.
- Mike Neil, general manager of virtualization at Microsoft, will focus on user interfaces, data centers, and cloud computing.
- Steve Herrod, CTO of VMware, will discuss some of the future concepts of IT virtualization.
- Tim Marsland, Sun Fellow, vice president, and systems group CTO at Sun Microsystems, will participate in the podium discussion on April 21.
- Alex Vasilevsky, CTO of Virtual Computer, Inc., will put virtual user interfaces under the microscope.
