After 20 years, the era of the 32-bit PC is drawing to a close, and the first 64-bit computers are in the starting blocks. While rapid market acceptance of the successor is not expected, it will be a common sight on desktops in the foreseeable future, and enterprises should therefore evaluate the technology in good time.

Our society is becoming more and more dependent on digital information and communication technologies. Although, from a technical perspective, everyone can read a book from the 16th century, only few are able to access 15-year old data stored on diskette.
