Radio frequency identification (RFID) enables automatic identification of objects. So far, RFID has been used primarily in logistics and in warehouse management. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD in its German abbreviation) have now discovered an application area that sparked great interest at CeBIT in Hanover. It’s called the “advisor for nutrition and intelligent shopping,” BERNIE in its German abbreviation. BERNIE identifies the ingredients of grocery products.
