Since the mid-1990s, the emergence of various technologies has changed the way people use the Internet. Content is no longer generated centrally and then distributed; individual users network with one another to share and evaluate information. The resulting social networks and activities involved provide added value to individuals and groups alike. A term often used to describe this development is Web 2.0.
