Worldwide Education Series for the IBM Sales Force

Building on successful sales education events held in 2002 and 2003, the SAP and IBM Alliance team has held a joint event designed for those at IBM with business objectives related to SAP. The Alliance produced three events which were all linked by one common 'main tent agenda' and included customized content for the local regions.

This event series started in the EMEA region on February 16-18, was followed by the Americas edition on Feb 24-26, and concluded in Japan on March 4-5. SAP and IBM hosted more than 1000 total attendees from IBM Sales & Distribution and IBM Business Consulting Services in the three events.
During the first day ‘main tent’ session, the companies provided an overview of the alliance plans for 2004. The remaining two days consisted of ‘breakout sessions’ focused specifically on areas of interest for the IBM attendees. New in 2004, the team introduced a Business Partner stream and an education track designed specifically for SAP “novices” within IBM. There was broad acceptance and interest in the novice track, the positioning of mySAP ERP, the special sessions on NetWeaver and the SAP/IBM interoperability (CTSC) story. Participants also showed high interest in deep dive technical sessions as well as the positioning overview breakouts, where both SAP and IBM speakers clearly addressed the opportunities and challenges resulting from the collaboration strategy of both companies.
Overall feedback received from the evaluation questionnaires was overwhelmingly positive and emphasized the value of the time spent. Many commented on the depth and breadth of the event, along with the opportunity to network within the SAP community. The alliance teams will use this momentum to follow up with regular education sessions for IBM sales and consulting throughout 2004.
